Statement of Terri Piotrowski Shawn Paul Humphries’ Aunt.
I am Shawn's Aunt, and for a long time I have wanted to speak up for him but like other's I believed in the death penalty. My new life with Christ has made me see it's wrong, not because of what's happening to Shawn, but because I believe every life means something.
Shawn made a wrong choice that day. Shawn's early life brought him to that choice, A man that should of been a good Father taught him early about stealing, drugs, sexual abuse and by the time my sister finally got him, it was to late. They say children are like a tree, when they are planted, which ever way you push the tree that's the way it will grow.
My biggest regret is not taking that child when he was in that position. My sister's regret is that she didn’t fight harder for him, but Shawn's Father told her he would kill her and the kids. She had been so badly beaten and harmed by him that she believed him. I am not trying to make excuses but I just want people to see what the world is doing to our children. Violence in video games, Christ being taken from the schools so that no child has that opportunity to learn about values. People turning their heads when they see abuse and not reporting because they don't want to get involved.
Bad things happen to good people. Let us stand up for children. Let Shawn's death matter. People in all walks of life have that opportunity to make a difference. Teachers, Doctors, Neighbors that know of abuse should stand up.
We are sad yes, but we have Joy knowing that Shawn will meet Jesus face to face this Friday. He definately has made a differnce in our life. We will not remember the ugly things that are said about him in the press,we know they are not true. We will remember the little curly haired boy that loved rocks, the river, and baseball.
His death has no meaning and I sure don't think this is justice. We forgive those that want vengence. I ask for prayers for Shawn’s Mom who I love very much. Pray for Shawn.
