Two Oregon Prisoners Fast in Solidarity
J.D. Tiner and Dave "Rooster" Cox, two capital prisoners on death row in the Oregon State Penitentiary opted to fast along with us, come back soon to read a light-hearted account of "Fast Times on the Row" .

Fast and Vigil in Terre Haute, Indiana

Yesterday (June 30th) was tough on us, but we achieved our modest goal of having at least 6 people out there throughout the afternoon, with a total of 17 people participating all together. We did start at 8 a.m., with 3 of us during the morning "shift." It was brutally hot for most of the day. The bank clock across the street (which someone said was off by about 8 degrees) at one point said 105.

It was an excellent spot for car traffic and hundreds of people saw us. We were videotaped by some outoftown people who drove by several times. A guy who goes around photographing courthouses got a bonus with our presence (he also invited us to do his brother's radio talk show in Indy in the future).

Finally, we got a very nice television spot which was the lead on the 6, 10 and 11 news, and I just opened today's paper to the front page headline, "Starvin' for Justice" with a great picture of Rob from Indianapolis holding one of the chloroplast signs, with CUADP website and number prominently displayed. I'm also excited about the article because I'm not in it at all (except as a little tiny figure in the photo background). I was leaving for my break just as the newspaper people arrived. The folks who were there did a great job of carrying the media ball.

Please send greetings to all the Washington F&V people from the abolitionists in Terre Haute!!
Peace,
Suzanne

Gainesville Citizens for Alternatives to the Death Penalty

GCADP Seventeen people in Gainesville participated in a solidarity event for Starvin' for Justice. It was held at one of Gainesville's busiest intersections and an entrance to the University of Florida.

For several hours in the heat, the group handed out leaflets to passing cars and pedestrians.

Earlier that day a local radio station interviewed Amy Jo Smith, Coordinator of Gainesville Citizens for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, and led off the noon news with information on the solidarity event.

Eight members of Pax Christi Tampa Bay and Amnesty International

Eight members of Pax Christi Tampa Bay and Amnesty International braved the summer sun and the exhaust fumes of Ulmerton Road for an hour on July 2nd in support of the people fasting and vigiling at the Supreme Court.

The vigil went extremely well; using signs and a nine-foot banner reading "END EXECUTIONS," the vigilers reached many thousands of people driving by, and the rain held off until the last five minutes!

Afterwards some of the vigilers gathered at Tucson's restaurant for a southwestern repast.

Messages of Solidarity

To Those Who Fast
I send you my solidarity from Micronesia

I am proud of each and every one of you who has made the time to be there in OUR NAMES... fasting... protesting... and telling the truth...

It is hard to do with out food... it is a sacrifice... but it is even harder to do with out justice and freedom...

Because of your work and your spirit we will all be better off in the future

I thank you for being the voice for the voiceless and for turning your candles into bonfires for abolition

I send my respect
SI SE PUEDE
yes it can be done
Magdaleno
