Meet the Governor!
Finally, a Governor who will listen to us! Meet Governor,
CUADP's mascott. This Governor always issues a STAY, and never
signs death warrants! Check back for updates on the exploits
of our new leader! |

Born on June 29, 2000, the anniversary of Furman v.
Georgia, this American Stafordshire Terrier/African Lion Hound
(Rhodesian Ridgeback) mix was adopted by Abe and Carolyn on August
31st, 2000.
Now 13 weeks old, he's getting bigger! These photos were
made on 25 September, 2000. Note the bandage - Governor sliced
up his foot badly enough to need a few stitches. Gotta get
that doggy insurance! (If only we could get people insurance!)

| The Governor Diaries: 12/12/2000
Now almost 24 weeks old, Governor is more than 45 lbs. and still
growing! Here's a few pics from the last few months.
Note that Governor attended his first demonstration on Nov. 26, 2000
while the Presidential votes were being counted in West Palm Beach.
He graduated from basic obedience training on November 9th, but that
has not kept him from bolting out the front door every chance he
gets! The back yard has some massive holes and lots of stuff
he's dragged outside. The neighbors love him, as do their
dogs, as do we.

Governor Diaries: 1/30/2001
At seven months of age, Governor is now more then 61
lbs. And, thank heaven for doggy insurance, because we
returned from the inaugurauction in Washington, DC to find that our
fearless leader had developed an abscess as a result of an infection
which came from a bite from Kona, a neighbor dog who Governor loves
to romp with. Kona had had enough, but Governor kept at it,
and so Governor got nipped. Anyway, off to the vet, who said,
"sure, we can operate immediately," and now Governor has a
drain in his face and is getting blood all over the place.
BUT, still playing hard! Vet bill: $171. Insurance
covered $131. Smile.

Governor Goes to SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the
U.S.)
We adopted governor from our local shelter when he was
thought to be about 10 weeks old. Counting back, that made his
birthday June 29th, which for us is significant because we attend the Annual
Fast & Vigil to Abolish the Death Penalty at the US Supreme
Court in commemoration of the landmark Furman V. Georgia decision.
Governor celebrated his first birthday with dozens of activists
singing happy birthday to him on the sidewalk in front of the US
Supreme Court! |

Recently we were looking at some propaganda from the
pet insurance company that covers Governor. (Isn't it great when you
can get insurance for a dog but not for a person? We live in a GREAT
country, eh?!)? Anyway, we noticed a feature on "your pet's
birthday," with an invitation to submit a photo and a story.
"It's worth a shot!" we said, and the net result is that our
message is now subtly put out to pet owners:
(See <http://ph.petinsurance.com/stories/governor_bd.cfm?>
for the photo and article as posted.)

The Governor Will See You
Now

We adopted Governor from our
local animal shelter when he was about 10 weeks old. Counting back,
that made his birthday June 29, which for us is significant because
we attend an annual anti-death penalty vigil at the United States
Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. in commemoration of the landmark
Furman vs. Georgia decision. Governor celebrated his first birthday
with dozens of activists singing “Happy Birthday” to him on the
sidewalk in front of the United States Supreme Court. By the way, we
named him Governor because we wanted at least one ‘governor’ who
would listen to us … and we still don’t have
that!
