Other Candidates

It seems like all the candidates are for the death penalty! But that is not actually true - there are alternatives! However, as far as the major party boys go, Al Gore is an even bigger weenie on this issue the George W. Why? Because Al is a smart guy and should know better. Gore would do well to simply read our main essay on George, and then say something like;

"Well, as you know I am for the death penalty, but not like they do it in Texas. George W. Bush seems to support a system where people facing the death penalty had lawyers who slept during their trial. I don't know about you, but I have a problem with that."

Instead, Al Gore fails to be a leader on this issue. It seems like the death penalty is the only issue where Gore refuses to aggressively challenge Bush.

Do smart politicians support the death penalty because they really think it's appropriate, or because they are afraid of the political backlash they think would come from calling the death penalty what it really is: Bad Public Policy!

Smart presidential candidates who oppose the death penalty include:

Green Party: Ralph Nader
Libertarian Party: Harry Browne
Natural Law Party: John Hagelin
Workers World Party: Monica Moorehead
Other? Let us know!
