Eight days after the first federal execution since 1963,
the U.S.
Government plans to strap down Juan Raul Garza and poison him
to death in
revenge for his murder or involvement in the murders of Thomas
Albert
Rumbo, Gilberto Matos and Erasmo de la Fuente. As with the
McVeigh
killing, activists across the country and in other countries
will gather in
protest of this unnecessary act of state sponsored violence.
Listed below
are just a few of the actions planned (that we are aware of),
along with
local contact information. See below for CUADP's statement on
the Garza
killing. CUADP Director Abe Bonowitz will participate in an
action at the
federal building in Daytona, Florida this evening and is
available at
561-371-5204.

CUADP's statement regarding Juan Garza:
"Juan Raul Garza is scheduled to be killed by the
people of the United
States at 7am on June 19, 2001 in revenge for his murder of
Thomas Albert
Rumbo, Gilberto Matos and Erasmo de la Fuente. But not really.
Actually, he
was a drug dealer, and his skin is brown. True, he committed
some murders,
but our government does not care about THOSE victims, who were
also drug
dealers. In fact, because they thought the jury would also not
see those
victims as being valuable enough to warrant an execution, the
prosecutors
introduced information during sentencing about murders in
Mexico that Garza
was alleged (but not proven) to have also committed.... Garza
is being
killed not because "justice demands it," but because
we CAN kill him, and
because his skin is brown."
